Propecia Hair Loss Remedy

Propecia (Finasteride) as an Effective Means for Hair Loss or Hair Replacement

To date, there are only two hair loss treatments that have been approved by the FDA for hair loss or hair replacement therapy.  These are Minoxidil, which you have probably heard of as Rogaine, or Finasteride, which is sold under the name of Propecia.  Before you consider hair transplants or any other form of hair replacement procedures, consider either of these two treatments for hair restoration as these are both very effective in achieving significant hair regrowth in many people.   Of these two products, Finasteride (Propecia) is the only FDA approved orally taken product on the market that significantly inhibits the production of DHT, a hormone that is the leading cause of hair loss and thinning hair in men.

When Propecia was first formulated, it was done so to treat conditions of the prostate and was called Proscar.  At the time it was prescribed in 5mg tablets, and it was known to decrease the production of a hormone called DHT.  This hormone had been found to play a significant role in prostate cancer.  When patients began taking this medication for prostate, they began to notice that hair regrowth was occurring and Propecia very quickly became a marketed hair loss treatment.

Further clinical trials indicated that a dose as low as 1mg on a daily basis was enough to incur hair growth for 83% of subjects after they had been taking the treatment for two years.  Beginning in 1998, this formulation had been marketed by the name of Propecia and it is currently only one of two hair loss products that is FDA approved for hair loss treatment.  Currently this hair loss remedy is only available to men, as there are dangers to an unborn male fetus if Propecia is taken by women.

The primary function of Propecia is to prevent thinning hair and hair loss, and promote hair growth.  This treatment is most effective for men in younger ages that wish to control thinning hair or early stage hair loss.  However, used in conjunction with hair loss products like Rogaine, hair loss can be halted, and hair growth can be restored.

Propecia works by inhibiting the production of DHT which is a hormone that plays the primary role in hair loss.  Each hair shaft contains an enzyme known as 5-alpha-reductase.  The enzyme functions to convert the hormone testosterone into the hormone known as DHT.  The hair that exists in the hair shaft prior to the production of DHT begins growth as normal hair until testosterone converts to DHT.  When DHT appears, the hairs in the shaft begin to progressively get smaller as DHT forces a choking effect onto the hair follicle.  The choking gets so strong that eventually the hair growth stops completely, and hair thinning and hair loss occurs.

Propecia works to stop DHT from forming, and a significant production of DHT can be seen over a period of as short as a few months.  Because of this, it is considered to be the most effective hair loss treatment available.  You can order Propecia online, or get a Propecia prescription from your doctor.  You can also buy Propecia from an online pharmacy if you prefer discreet shopping.
While Propecia is a very effective treatment for baldness and hair loss, it is even more effective when it is used in conjunction with foam Rogaine, or prescription Rogaine.  These products combined work to both diminish the affects of DHT as well as influence hair regrowth.

As with everything that sounds too good to be true, there are some side effect including loss of libido.  To find out what Propecia did to me, read my article below:
